Dashboard issues
Power BI or Looker Studio dashboards that won't load, show empty results, have broken filters, or numbers that look unexpected.
Power BI or Looker Studio dashboards aren't behaving as expected. Most issues are filter-related, currency-related, or a known limitation of a specific dashboard template.
Quick checks first
- Did you refresh the data? Right-click the dataset in Power BI → Refresh. The dashboard reads from a cached extract.
- Are all filters set correctly? Marketplace, currency, account, tag, and brand filters can each silently filter to zero.
- Have you opened the latest version of the template? Templates get updated regularly. See the Changelog for recent dashboard updates.
- Want more history than the tab is showing? Many tabs cap their default lookback window to keep the report fast. See Changing the historical lookback window before assuming data is missing.
Common scenarios
Dashboard won't load
| Symptom | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| "Failed to test the connection" | Snowflake/BigQuery credentials wrong | See Connection failures |
| Empty visuals across the whole dashboard | Data source not refreshed | Refresh the dataset in Power BI / Looker Studio |
| Visual shows error icon | Field renamed in DataHawk's schema | Update the visual's field reference. Check the Changelog for schema changes |
Empty results with filters applied
| Symptom | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Vendor Analytics → Best Seller Product is empty | Filter combination has no data | Loosen filters one at a time until results appear; common culprits are Distribution View (sourcing/manufacturing) and Selling Program |
| Sales appear but Ads don't | Ad account not linked to the same marketplace as the Seller account | Check Workspace → Integrations |
Numbers look wrong
| Symptom | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Ad sales > total sales | Multi-account attribution issue, or expected attribution behavior | Filter to one account at a time to verify. If it persists, this can be normal — see why Ad Sales can exceed Total Sales |
| BSR (or other tabs) limited to less history than expected, e.g. 12 months | Template's lookback parameter is set lower than the data actually available | You can raise this yourself — see Changing the historical lookback window. No need to query raw tables. |
| Profit Explorer P&L doesn't match pivot export | Different aggregation logic | The pivot export uses raw ledger data; the dashboard rolls up by category. They should match at marketplace+month grain but can differ at finer grain |
| Currency picker shows wrong values | Currency conversion bug (Analytics Essentials Looker Studio dashboard) | Known issue. Confirm the currency parameter on the dashboard's data source matches the visual filter |

My finance events look stale in Power BI
How to troubleshoot when FINANCE_EVENTS in Power BI appears to stop updating. Usually a query filter issue (sync_time vs posted_time), not a sync issue.
Connection failures
Errors when connecting Amazon/Walmart accounts, Snowflake/BigQuery warehouses, or Power BI to your data.
